Thomas Clifton Gibbs Memorial Park
Dedicated July 12th, 1986, in loving memory of Thomas Clifton
Gibbs, born February 7th, 1870, died February 19th, 1926. A devoted
husband, father and civic leader, he was at his death senior
partner of Gibbs Brothers & Company. He was three time mayor of
Huntsville, and the first streets were paved during his administration.
He was president of the First National Bank of Huntsville,
formerly Gibbs National Bank. A faithful churchmen,
he was building committee chairman of the present First Methodist
Church; and it was through his efforts that the church's much-
admired stained glass windows were obtained. Mr. Gibbs was an active
member of the Masonic order of Force Lodge number 19 A. F.
& A. M. The epitaphs on his headstone most aptly describes him:
"He stood four square to every wind that blew."
