ATSF #999014 - Dodge City, Kansas, USA - Train Cabooses on Waymarking.com

This Cupola Caboose is on display at the western end of the former Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe train depot. The caboose has been restored and is in excellent shape. This is a typical western cupola caboose with the cupola towards the back. The stove pipe is in the middle of the car. The exterior of the caboose can be viewed 24 hours a day, however, the interior is not available for tours.

The ATSF caboose has the number 999014. According to Don's Depot - (visit link) :
"999014, Class Ce-1, was built by AT&SF in February 1942 as 2178. It was rebuilt as 999014 in 1967 and later sold as Dodge City Ford & Bucklin Ry 999014."

"Between 1966 and 1968, Santa Fe's West Wichita shops upgraded 315 all-steel cabooses for mainline pool service. Previously, cabooses had been assigned to individual crews, and were changed at every crew change point. Labor agreements reached in the 1960's allowed cabooses to run-through, but also required certain upgrades. The Ce-1's were equipped with cushion underframes and sealed windows in place of the old, sliding kind originally found on the cars. Taking the cupola end as the rear, the three windows on the right side of the car were initially retained, while the five windows on the left were reduced to four. Within a few years, the arrangement was changed to just two on the right and one on the left."
