Starting off at one of the bicycle racks in the downtown area, if you look around you'll spot one of Claremore's murals - this one a locomotive. In front of the Daily Progress newspaper office is a sculpture of Will Rogers reading a newspaper, and nearby is a time capsule to be opened in 2046.
Lynn Riggs was a poet and playwright. He wrote "Green Grow the Lilacs" centered in his home town of Claremore. This play opened on Broadway in 1943 as "Oklahoma!" and was later made into a movie in 1955. In fact, at the Claremore Museum of History, the original "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" is on display.
The museum is located in the old Will Rogers Library building at 121 N. Weenonah Avenue, which was built in 1936 by the WPA. Well worth a visit.
