Marker Text (required): Many years ago, the Rabe Family used this meadow for grazing cattle. Before Kingsbury Road was paved, the family would drive the cattle up the grade. Eventually they sold the land to a developer who began building a high class hotel casino. The 10 story Ted Jennings Tahoe Palace would have included a 3 story parking garage and its own artificial lake. The casino foundation was laid by 1980. The US Forest service bought the land before the building could be complete, then immediately began a massive restoration effort to return the meadow and surrounding streams to their natural state.
