The B940 road runs from the market town of Cupar eastwards to the coastal town of Crail through the countryside of Fife. Along the seventeen mile stretch are a number of milestones including this one near the farm of Drumrack a few hundred yards west of the staggered crossroads with the B9131 St Andrews to Anstruther road.
Like all the others on the route, it is of whitewashed whinstone with a cast-iron cap. On one side are the places to the east, the town of Anstruther, village of Kilrenny, and Crail. To the west, the hamlet of Peat Inn, village of Ceres, and Cupar. All placenames are in black abbreviated cursive script.
The milestone is situated on the northern verge of the road and is around two feet high, barely poking above the roadside foliage. A number 5 adorns its top, probably indicating it as the fifth milestone from Crail.
