"For millions of years, this area ?was a shallow sea Erosion from adjacent highlands built up thick layers of sediments, rich with marine fossils. Beginning 3 or 4 million years ago, these rock layers were thrust up, tightly folded, and faulted. West?facing slopes are. the remains of the original surface, while east facing slopes expose the edges of many rock layers. A bench along the east side oi Rocky Ridge follows a fault between two crustal blocks. The western? block has moved northeast along this fault line."
