Balgavies (pronounced Balguys) Loch is situated in the county of Angus some five miles east of the town of Forfar on the A932 road. The loch is one of a chain that sit in the Lunan Valley and is now a haven for wildlife.

The small parking area just off the road houses this sign that gives information on the loch and how it was formed some 8,000 to 10,000 years ago. It also gives information on 55 species of birds that visit the loch, 50 in winter, including greylag and pink-footed geese with in summer, great crested grebes that nest in reedbeds and sedges. The summer beds shine with yellow flag ins and the rarer cowbane. Also rare to the area is the tufted loosestring. Also included is the work restoring kidney vetch which provides food for the small blue butterfly.

The car park is on the north side of the A932 and sits high above the southern side of the loch which can be circumnavigated by a walker's path.
