Anti aircraft searchlight battery & pillbox, near Leesthorpe, Rutland. Second World War Type 22 hexagonal pillbox with brick outer skin. Somewhat overgrown in summer.
"Located to the north of Brickfield Farm, Whissendine this brick shuttered Type 22 with pre-cast concrete externally stepped embrasures at 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 and with semi-circular concrete shelf under. The half height entrance at 1 has flanking pistol loops to either side. A brick built cruciform AR wall/pillar with rounded corners supports the concrete slab roof centrally. Rounded corners to sides of entrance internal and external. Vent pipes at corners of 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 6-1. Pipes still stand proud at 1-2 and 6-1.
