When Main Street was the primary road into Payson, the Herron Hotel was there to welcome weary travellers. This marker indicates that the hotel occupied three building lots but burned down in 1918. It was replaced by several other businesses, all since forgotten. The marker reads as follows;
Site of the Herron Hotel, 602, 604, 606 W. Main St.
The two-storey Herron Hotel burned down in
1918 at this location. Subsequently a series
of businesses were established on this block
Among them were Payson's first gasoline
station, an ice cream parlor, barber shop,
mercantile store, and finally the buildings
you see today.
