The Gentsiet ferry crosses the river Weser and is only for people and bicycles.
The ferry is first mentioned in a drawing in 1782. The first documentary evidence of a publicly available ferry connection between Grinden and Ahsen takes place by a lease of May 19, 1825 by King George IV.
In 1959 the ferry service was discontinued.
On August 21, 2005, the operation with the ferry "Gentsiet" by the association "Fährverein Hagen-Grinden / Ahsen-Oetzen e.V." resumed.
The name "Gentsiet" comes from Low German and means "opposite".
