The land for the Cemetery was donated by local landholder John Evans in the 1860's, the Evans graves and other family members are in a separate fenced-off area in the northeast corner of the grounds. In another corner is a memorial to 14 members of the Chinese community buried in the cemetery, total interments amount to 300+.
The name "Whitefield is thought to have come from the white flowers that once covered the countryside. Somewhere in the past the "E" has became lost and it is known today as Whitfield.
