As the wife of a Vietnam Veteran, I am always grateful that my husband returned home safe and sound and I appreciate memorials like this to remember those who didn't return at all or who endured additional pain when captured by the Viet Cong. Memorial Park is filled with reminders of people that we need to be thankful to but this one is the most relevant to me.
The monument was presented to the park and the people of DeBary by the VFW Post 8093 of DeBary. In addition to the monument donated by this organization, from their website (

"Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8093 of Debary FL is the official nonprofit service organization for USA military veterans benefits, VFW programs, patriotic events, American flag disposal, and services to military veterans in Debary FL and surrounding communities. We support our community of Debary FL (and surrounding communities) by participating in The Voice of Democracy Program which gives opportunities to win scholarships to students in grades 9-12, who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program. "
