"Waiting" is a 17-foot statue and was created by Brooklyn-based artist Brian Donnelly under the alias Kaws, the statue features two figures known as “Companion” — a recurring character in the Kaws lexicon that represents the process of growing up and often reflects personal aspects pulled from the artist’s own life.
The status resembles Mickey Mouse action figures in form but features skull-and-crossbones faces with crossed-out eyes. These characters have been arranged to resemble a parent and a child caught in a moment of pause.
The Gilbert Family purchased this incredible piece (it is maintained by Bedrock of Detroit. The location for 'Waiting' was chosen at One Campus Martius because it is in the heart of the action, where the sculpture can become synonymous with downtown's momentum.
