Everything is fine on the front of the monument, which is a standard Woodmen of the World tree trunk, with an inscription scroll hanging from a rope from one of the sawn off limbs. The inscription reads:
A.W. Reynolds
Born
July 23, 1877;
Died
Nov. 2, 1902.
A piece of bark peels back to reveal:
Erected by the
Woodmen of
the World
Payne Springs
Camp No. 1109.
Under the family name, "Reynolds" on the reverse plinth, is an epitaph, with a typographical error where the sculptor should have inscribed "Cherished":
Although he doth sleep his memory doth live
And cherised comfort to his mourners give.
