Long Description:
The fountain named "Floating stone (Piera galleggiante)" can be found in the centre of Piazza Gramsci in Carrara. In the center of a circular pool there is a stone sphere made of world-famous, local marble (Carrara marble) by an American sculptor Kennneth Davis (1918-1992). The sphere of 108 centimeters diameter, weight of 1.781 ton, ground and resting on a hydrodynamical cup in order to rotate over a film of water at 5 atmospheres. It was installed in 1979.
