EN: The area of today's territory of the canton of Valais was inhabited by Celts and conquered by the Romans from 57 BC. It became a Roman province around 47 AD. that existed until the middle of the fifth century. However, in the Upper Valais, there are only a few testimonies of this era and hardly any documents.
One of the few exceptions is the "Dieu de Viège", a small Gallo-Roman statue from the times around BC, found in Visp. A replica of this statue has been standing on a fountain near the Visp station since 1994.
DE: Das von Kelten bewohnte heutige Gebiet des Kanton Wallis wurde ab 57 v.Chr. von Römern erobert und wurde ca. 47 n.Chr. zu einer römischen Provinz, die bis ins Mitte des fünften Jahrhunderts existierte. Im Oberwallis gibt es aber nur wenige Zeugnisse dieser Zeit und kaum überlieferte Dokumente.
Eine der wenigen Ausnahmen ist der "Dieu de Viège", eine kleine gallo-römische Statue aus der Zeitenwende die in Visp gefunden wurde. Eine Kopie dieser Statue steht seit 1994 auf einem Brunnen in der Nähe des Bahnhofs von Visp.
