[DE] "Die Stiftskirche St. Martin und St. Severus ist die Kirche des ehemaligen Stifts St. Martin und St. Severus in Münstermaifeld im Landkreis Mayen-Koblenz in Rheinland-Pfalz. Der aus dem 12. bis 13. Jahrhundert stammende Kirchenbau im rheinischen Übergangsstil wird auch als „Maifeldmünster“ bezeichnet.
Die Stiftskirche St. Martin und St. Severus ist ein geschütztes Kulturgut nach der Haager Konvention.
Die Kirche geht auf eine merowingische Gründung des 6. oder 7. Jahrhunderts zurück und war Mittelpunkt einer Urpfarrei.
Ihre Erbauung beginnt nach Aufzeichnungen des Trierischen Geschichtsschreibers Hontheim in der Zeit des Erzbischofs Magnericus (573–596) auf den Fundament einer römischen Wachturmanlage, als Zentrum der Christianisierung. 640 ist die Martinskirche im heutigen Münstermaifeld durch Erzbischof Modoald geweiht worden. Kurz nach 700 ist die Martinskirche „Monasterium“ (Münster), d.h. Klosterkirche, geworden. Die erste Erwähnung als Stiftskirche geht auf das Jahr 905 zurück.
Der Trierer Bischof Ruotbert brachte im Februar 952 Reliquien des heiligen Severus von Ravenna aus Italien mit nach Trier. Einige Jahre später (vermutlich 956) ließ er sie in das damalige Monasterium nach Münstermaifeld überführen. Ein Teil der Reliquien kam später nach Boppard. Nach der Überführung der Reliquien nach Münstermaifeld wurde es im Mittelalter zu einem Wallfahrtszentrum.
Das heute noch sichtbare „Westwerk“, ein nach Westen ausgerichteter, rund 34 Meter hoher Doppelturm, ist im unteren Teil der bedeutende Rest des 1103 durch Erzbischof Bruno von Bretten geweihten, romanischen Vorgängerbaus der Stiftskirche.
Die bis dahin flachgedeckte Basilika wurde 1225 bis 1322 durch die heutige gotische Kirche ersetzt. Zunächst wurde das Chorhaus, das beste Beispiel vorgotischer, polygonaler Choranlagen im Rheinland, mit Seitenapsiden in noch spätromanischen Formen im 13. Jahrhundert neu begonnen. Querschiff und Langhaus wurden in hochgotischen Formen ausgeführt. Das gotische Obergeschoss mit seinen Zinnen und Erkern wurde erst im 14. Jahrhundert aufgesetzt. Die Aufstockung dieses vierten Turmgeschosses war nötig, da es den neuen Glockenstuhl aufnehmen sollte. Dadurch waren die alten, heute noch erkennbaren Schalllöcher durch das neue Dach überdeckt. Die Weihe erfolgte 1322 unter Erzbischof Balduin von Trier.
Im Hochmittelalter ging das Stift an Augustiner-Chorherren über.
1802 wurde das Stift im Zuge der Säkularisation aufgehoben. 1924–1933 erfolgten umfassende Renovierungsarbeiten, bei denen Wandmalereien des 13. bis 15. Jahrhunderts freigelegt wurden."

The first mention as a collegiate church goes back to the year 905.
The Trier bishop Ruotbert brought relics of St. Severus of Ravenna from Italy to Trier in February 952. Some years later (probably 956) he had them transferred to the monastery in Münstermaifeld. A part of the relics came later to Boppard. After the transfer of the relics to Münstermaifeld it became a pilgrimage centre in the Middle Ages.
The "Westwerk", a west-facing double tower about 34 metres high and still visible today, is in the lower part the significant remainder of the Romanesque predecessor of the collegiate church consecrated in 1103 by Archbishop Bruno von Bretten.
The previously flat-roofed basilica was replaced by today's Gothic church between 1225 and 1322. First the choir hall, the best example of pre-Gothic polygonal choir complexes in the Rhineland, was re-started in the 13th century with side apses in late Romanesque forms. The transept and nave were built in high Gothic forms. The Gothic upper floor with its battlements and oriels was only added in the 14th century. The extension of this fourth tower floor was necessary as it was to accommodate the new bell tower. As a result, the old, still recognizable sound holes were covered by the new roof. The consecration took place in 1322 under Archbishop Balduin of Trier.
In the High Middle Ages the monastery passed to Augustinian canons.
In 1802 the monastery was abolished in the course of secularisation. In 1924-1933 extensive renovation work was carried out, during which wall paintings from the 13th to 15th centuries were uncovered."
