Le Silophone est une installation sonore dans le Silo #5, un imposant élévateur à grain abandonné du Vieux-Port de Montréal. L'œuvre participe à la fois du réseau virtuel et de l'objet « physique », utilisant diverses technologies de télécommunication pour introduire des sons — glanés à travers le monde dans l'étourdissant espace sonore du Silo #5 et en retourner les échos aux expéditeurs. Le Silo, une immense structure composée de 115 cylindres de 30
mètres de hauteur et de 8 mètres de diamètre — constitue un envi-
ronnemental ascoustique unique où les sons sont«colorés»et transformés par une réverbération de 20 secondes.
Silophone is the sonic inhabitation of Silo #5, a massive abandoned , grain elevator in the Old Port of Montreal. Silophone, a hybrid virtual network and physical object, uses various telecommunications technologies to introduce sounds collected from around the world into the stunning sonic space inside Silo #5 and to reflect the resulting echoes back to their senders.
The Silo, a vast complex composed of 115 cylinders, 30 meters tall and up to 8 meters in diameter is a unique acoustic environment. a 20 second reverberation "colours" and transforms sounds inside the building.
