The property is located in Cumberland County in the Sandhills area of North Carolina. Located north of Fayetteville, it covers 4,332 acres in the Sandhills region of the state. The park covers lands around Carvers Creek, a tributary of the Cape Fear River, and it borders Fort Bragg.
The late James Stillman Rockefeller bequeathed the property for conservation. His vacation home still stands on the property.
At the Ranger Station/Visitor Center, one can purchase a NC State Parks Passport Book. In addition, the docent or ranger on duty can stamp your book for your visit. The visitor center has a good selection of souvenirs, maps, and various and sundry items.
