Köln - Die Fahne mit dem Kölner Stadtwappen rutschte langsam vom Straßenschild, und die Menschen sangen „Ich bin ne kölsche Jung“ – die Willy-Millowitsch-Hymne schlechthin.
Die bislang namenlose, im Volksmund Gertrudenplatz genannte Fläche zwischen Breite Straße, Apostelnstraße und Gertrudenstraße heißt nun offiziell „Willy-Millowitsch-Platz“.
„Was lange währt, wird endlich gut“, kommentierte Peter Millowitsch, Sohn des Volksschauspielers, der 1999 starb, die Platztaufe. Gemeinsam mit Bürgermeisterin Elfi Scho-Antwerpes, Bezirksbürgermeister Andreas Hupke und Adi Inden, dem das Platz-Grundstück gehört, enthüllte er das Straßenschild mit dem neuen Namen.
Offen ist, ob die insgesamt 1,5 Tonnen schwere, lebensgroße Bronzestatue des Schauspielers vom Eisenmarkt auf den neuen Platz umziehen soll. Die Meinungen darüber sind geteilt, die Beteiligten der Platzbenennung jedenfalls befürworten es vehement. (og)
