The soldiers Jean Dossogne and Gaston Meulemeester lost their lives in the Second World War (11 May 1940) on the border between Werm and Alt-Hoeselt. The History and Local Society of Werm placed a monument a few meters from the site of ambush on day 65 years later.

Dossogne and Meulemeester, just like the rest of the Belgian army, retreated after the battle at Veldwezelt-Vroenhoven which was the beginning of the Second World War on Belgian soil. In the early morning they unsuspectingly bumped into an advanced post scout from the German army.
