The monument is a stone column, bronze relief bust, large stone with a commemorative plaque. Sigvald Asbjornsen, 1867-1954, sculptor, is the artist. Roald Amundsen's boat the "Gjoa" was originally installed on this site. It was returned to Norway in the late 1970's. The location is the parking lot of the Beach Chalet on Goldengate Park, across from Ocean beach.
